.Stanislaus Special Olympics provides athletic opportunities to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, instilling the confidence they need to succeed in school, the workplace and in life. Currently, we offer year-round sports training and competition in 7 different sports for over 150 local athletes within four different seasons.
How does Special Olympics Work?
Special Olympics sports are available to all eligible athletes (visit our FAQ page for more information about eligibility, including age requirements) at no cost to the athlete. Your athlete doesn’t need to know how to play a sport, as our coaches will work with your athlete, regardless of their level, to teach them the skills they need to participate. A sports season typically consists of 6-8 training (practices) that usually take place one to two times per week in the evening or on the weekend, which culminates with a competition opportunity.
